How the cost is calculated.

What formula does the calculator use?

Hours lost per month = people involved × hours lost per week × weeks worked per month (4 by default, i.e. 48 weeks a year). Monthly cost = hours lost per month × fully loaded hourly cost, plus, if entered, errors per month × average cost of an error. Annual cost = monthly cost × 12, 3-year cost = annual cost × 3.

How do I estimate the fully loaded hourly cost?

Divide the fully loaded annual gross salary (gross salary plus employer contributions) by the number of hours actually worked in the year. The calculator shows no amount until this cost is entered.

Why 1,607 hours for a full-time equivalent?

1,607 hours corresponds to the legal annual full-time working duration in France. Hours lost per year are divided by this base to get the full-time equivalent.

How is the potential annual gain calculated?

If you enter the share of time a tool could recover, the potential annual gain = people × hours lost per week × weeks worked per month × 12 × fully loaded hourly cost × recoverable share. This share applies only to the cost of lost time, never to the cost of errors. Hours recovered per year follow the same logic: hours lost per year × recoverable share.

How is the cost of errors factored in?

It's optional: enter the number of errors per month and their average cost (rework, refund, penalty). This amount is annualized then added to the cost of time.

What are the limits of the calculation?

The result is an estimate based on your own assumptions. It does not measure the impact on customer satisfaction, opportunity cost, or the cost of a future tool. Use it as an order of magnitude to decide whether it's worth tackling the problem.
